UN: More Than 600,000 Children In Nigeria On Verge Of Death Due To Hunger

The United Nations (UN) reported that more than 600 thousand children in the northeastern states of Nigeria, where terrorists actively operate, are threatened by hunger and may die if they do not receive access to emergency power services.

The joint statement of the Nigerian government and representatives of the UN states that the humanitarian crisis went deeper in the states of Borno, Adamava and Yobe (Bay) in the northeast of the country where terrorists were operating.

The statement says that at least 1 million children in the region are at risk of acute malnutrition; More than 600 thousand of them are in life -threatening condition and can die for 6 months if they do not receive access to emergency power services.

According to this information, 4.6 million people will experience an acute lack of food during the dry season, which began in June in the provinces of Bay, and this situation will cause difficult humanitarian conditions in the region for the sixth year in a row.

On the other hand, Minister of Humanitarian issues and the fight against the poverty of Nigeria Nentava Goshwe Jilvatd and the UN coordinator for humanitarian issues and affairs of residents in Nigeria Mohamed Fall presented the public at the Code of Abuja “A plan for responding to the dry season of 2025 for Nigeria.”

In his speech at the ceremony, Minister Yilvatda said: “This is a promise that not a single child in Bay will go to sleep hungry and not a single mother will lose her child for a reason that can be eliminated.”

The UN Coordinator Fall on this occasion noted: “Humanitarian assistance is at risk. Solidarity is weakening, and the lack of resources is at risk of millions of people, especially children,” he said, urging international structures to provide support.
