UN: Number Of Displaced Residents Of El Fasher Exceeds 106 Thousand

The number of residents forced to leave their homes in El Fasher has exceeded 106 thousand since the city was captured by the Rapid Reaction Force (RRF) on October 26. This was reported by the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

“The number of displaced residents of El Fasher and nearby villages has reached 106,387 people since October 26,” the organization noted in a statement.

According to the IOM, residents who fled El Fasher were distributed across 37 districts in 11 states of the country. It also noted that field teams are observing serious security threats on roads that could impede the movement of people.

The statement emphasizes that the situation remains tense and unstable due to deteriorating security conditions and ongoing population movements.

Conflict in Sudan and abuses by the RRF

Since April 15, 2023, Sudan has been engulfed in violent clashes between the army and externally supported By rapid reaction forces.

The largest city in the Darfur region, El Fasher, after intense fighting, largely came under the control of the RRF.

Previously, tens of thousands of residents were forced to leave the city, and videos published by RRF fighters recorded cases of forced eviction of civilians, the killing of unarmed people and torture.
