UN Secretary General appointed Turkish diplomat by coordinator in Afghanistan

The UN Secretary General Antoniu Gutherrish appointed Feridun Sinirlioglu ambassador coordinator of a special assessment mission in Afghanistan. This was announced at a daily briefing at the UN headquarters in New York by the press secretary of the Secretary General Stefan Duzharrick.

According to the UN statement, Sinirlioglu was instructed to conduct an independent assessment and propose “holistic and consistent” recommendations for the current challenges that Afghanistan is faced.

The message notes that the Sinirlioglu ambassador has extensive experience in the field of international relations and diplomacy.

It is also stated that throughout his career he was engaged in political, humanitarian issues, issues of development and human rights, led intermediary activities.

The experience of the Turkish diplomat covers the Middle East and North Africa, Europe, North America and Asia, including Afghanistan.

Feridun Sinirlioglu served as Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey in 2015. He held the position of permanent representative of Turkey at the UN from 2016 to 2023.
