UN Security Council Rejected Draft Resolution On Delay In Restoration Of Sanctions Against Iran

At a meeting of the UN Security Council, a resolution draft provides for the extension of the joint comprehensive action plan (SVPD) under the Iranian nuclear program, until April 18, 2026. It was planned that the mechanism will enter into force on September 28.

the UN Security Council conducted a vote on the project of the resolution proposed by Russia and China.

during the vote of 9 countries, including the United States, Great Britain and France, voted against. In support of the document, Russia, China, Pakistan and Algeria spoke out. Gayana and South Korea abstained.

The project also provided for a delay in the action of the sanctions mechanism against Iran, called the “Return Mechanism”, which was supposed to enter into force on September 28 at the initiative of France and the UK.

“Eurotrotka” the UK, France and Germany – August 28 activated the “Return mechanism”, provided for by the Reference, provided for 2231 of the UN Security Council, if Iran did not fulfill its obligations. This mechanism provides for automatic restoration of sanctions within 30 days.

The mentioned countries are participants in the nuclear agreement with Iran from 2015, which limits Tehran’s nuclear activities.
