United States has suspended work of embassy in Sudan and evacuated diplomatic station

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced the suspension of the embassy in Hartum and the evacuation of all diplomatic personnel from Sudan in connection with the escalation of the situation in the country.

“The US State Department temporarily suspended the activities of the embassy in Hartum and safely evacuated all the personnel and members of their families,” the Blinken statement said.

Blinken said that the ongoing armed clashes between the army of Sudan and the rapid response forces create a serious threat to security.

“large -scale armed clashes led to death and injuries among the civilian population and significant damage to the infrastructure, which represents an unacceptable risk for the employees of our embassy,” he said.

In the meantime, the State Department once again urged US citizens to refrain from traveling to Sudan. The agency also called on the American citizens who were in Sudan to leave the country.
