United States Withdrawn Its Senior Diplomat From Columbia

The United States recalled their Supreme Diplomat from Colombia for consultations after the statements of the country’s president Gustavo Petro on the possible involvement of the United States in the alleged plan for its removal from power.

The US State Department’s statement says that the interim attorney in the United States in Colombia John Maknamara will be withdrawn to Washington against the backdrop of “unreasonable and worthy condemnation” of statements emanating from the highest representatives of the Colombian government.

Although the reasons for the review of the diplomat are not disclosed in detail, it is emphasized in the statement that Washington is deeply concerned about the current state of bilateral relations and intends to take additional measures to clarify the situation.

In response, Columbia President Gustavo Petro reported on his account on the social network X that Columbia withdrew his ambassador to the United States Daniel Garcia Pen to discuss bilateral priorities.

Earlier in June, Venezuela President Nicholas Maduro said that “a conspiracy is being conspired to overthrow the Peter government and accused the US Minister of Foreign Affairs Marco Rubio.

Peter himself also claimed that the former head of the Columbia Foreign Ministry Alvaro Leiva contacted American officials as part of a conspiracy against him. The General Prosecutor’s Office of Colombia announced the start of the investigation in connection with these statements.
