The US Department of Justice in absentia accused the member of the Islamic Revolutionary Corps (KSIR) of Iran of planning the murder of the former US presidential adviser to John Bolton, the statement published on the website of the department.
“Iranian citizen and a member of the XIR was charged and attempt to provide material support to a transnational conspiracy for the purpose of the murder,” the Ministry of Justice said in a statement.
According to court documents, starting in October 2021, the 45-year-old Shahram Pursafi, also known as Mehdi Rezay, tried to organize the murder of Bolton, probably in revenge for the death of General Kasem Suleimani. Pursafi, who was related to the Iranian special forces of Al-Kuds, tried to pay to private individuals in the USA $ 300 thousand for the murder of an adviser in Washington or Maryland.
If the guilty of Pursafi pleads up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $ 250 thousand for the use of trading facilities between the states for murder for hiring, as well as up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $ 250 thousand for providing and trying to provide Material support to a transnational conspiracy for the purpose of murder. Now Pursafi remains free outside the United States.
