US And Chinese Leaders To Meet In Busan, South Korea

US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping will hold a personal meeting tomorrow in the South Korean city of Busan.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun announced this at a press conference in Beijing.

According to him, diplomacy at the level of heads of state plays an indispensable strategic role in the development of Sino-American relations. During the talks, the leaders will discuss bilateral relations, issues of mutual interest, as well as strategic and long-term issues.

“We are ready to make joint efforts with the American side to achieve positive results from this meeting, which will give new direction and impetus to the stable development of bilateral relations,” Guo Jiakun said.

Earlier, on October 24, the White House announced that President Trump will attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit (APEC) in South Korea and will hold a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on October 30.

Beijing’s announcement today confirmed that plan.

Relations between the United States and China have been strained in recent months by Washington’s increased tariffs and restrictions on technology, as well as Beijing’s moves to tighten control over the supply of rare earth elements, which make up a large part of the global market.

Meeting between Trump and China Xi is critical to the future of bilateral relations and could determine their future direction depending on the agreements reached.
