US court ordered hacker from Russia to pay almost $ 20 million

The Federal Court of the Southern District of New York ordered compensation in the amount of $ 19.9 million Russian Andrei Tyurin, who in January was sentenced to 12 years in prison for cybercrime. This is reported by TASS with reference to the documents received to the e-database of the Court.

According to these documents, the parties came to an agreement regarding the amount that TURIN should provide individuals and legal entities affected by his actions. In accordance with TURIN arrangements “will pay compensation in the amount of $ 19,952,861.”

In early January, Tyurin was sentenced to 144 months of imprisonment. As Judge Laura Taylor Suene stated, Russian was involved in “large-scale criminal activity of a financial nature.”

Tyurin was extradited in the USA from Georgia in September 2018. The American authorities presented him with charges of hacking computer systems of financial institutions, brokerage offices and media specializing in the publication of economic information. The Russian originally stated his innocence. According to the court’s materials, in September 2019, TURIN went to a transaction with the prosecutor’s office. He recognized the blame for several points of charges.
