US does not plan to return to Astana Process on Syria

The United States of America is considered to be Geneva negotiations under the auspices of the UN as the best way to solve the conflict in Syria, and therefore do not plan to return as observers in the Astana Process (Russia, Iran, Turkey), the US Ambassador to Kazakhstan William Moser said, RIA Novosti report.

“We think that the Geneva process under the auspices of the UN is the most suitable process for resolving this conflict. Therefore, we don’t want to be observers in another process,” he said on Wednesday during the online briefing.

In Syria from 2011, armed conflict continues. In Nur-Sultan since 2017, negotiations are underway, known as the “Astana format” (as the same name of the capital of Kazakhstan), and in January 2018, the Congress of the Syrian National Naga was held in Sochi, which became the first since the beginning of the conflict attempt to assemble a wide composition of a wide range of participants. The main result of the Congress was the decision to create a constitutional committee, which operates in Geneva and the main task of which is to prepare constitutional reform.
