US Embassy in Belarus called on its citizens to immediately leave country

The US Embassy in Belarus called on its citizens to immediately leave the country.

The relevant statement of the embassy is posted on the social network X (formerly Twitter).

“A warning for US citizens: the Lithuanian government on August 18 closed the checkpoints on the border with Belarus in Tweratsius/Vidza and Sumskas/Lors. Other checkpoints remain open. Do not travel to Belarus. US citizens in Belarus should immediately Leave the country, ”the son -in -law says.

On the night of August 18, Lithuania authorities closed two border crossings on the border with Belarus due to a potential threat to the country’s national security. Another reason is the ongoing migration crisis. Thus, from today, Belarusian citizens to leave the country to the EU will become more difficult.

In Belarus, the decision to close two checkpoints was called an unfriendly step. In Minsk, it is believed that Lithuania specifically create the conditions for queues on the border and reducing the flow of Lithuanians, who can travel to Belarus in a visa -free mode. On August 28, the authorities of Lithuania, Latvia and Poland intend to discuss in Warsaw the possibility of the complete closure of all border points with Belarus. In the meantime, of the six border posts, four operates in working mode.
