US military personnel sent to Los Angeles on behalf of President Donald Trump to counteract protests to support illegal migrants, conducted detention among promoters. This was announced by the major general of the US Army Scott Sherman.
According to him, the detainees were immediately transferred to the police.
Sherman said that in recent days the activity of protests has decreased. At the same time, he noted that in the near future an escalation of the situation is expected again.
The general added that today about 500 military servicemen of the National Guard have passed trainings to support ICE employees.
US Secretary of Defense Pit Hegset previously stated that the National Guard and Marine Corps were sent to ensure the safety of ICE employees during their operations.
Protests against ICE in Los Angeles
In Los Angeles, protest actions continue to support illegal migrants detained by the US immigration and customs police agents (ICE). During the demonstrations, dozens of people were detained, and there were also a clash between the protesters and the forces of law and order.
Trump, explaining his decision to send the National Guard to the city, accused the local authorities led by representatives of the Democratic Party of what was happening.
The US Department of Defense, acting by order of Trump, began the deployment of 4 thousand fighters of the National Guard in the region.
Minister Highset said that about 700 marine infantrymen to ensure order will also be sent to Los Angeles in connection with the “increasing threats” to Los Angeles.
