US Plans To Use Nuclear Energy To Prevent Power Outages At Military Bases

The US Army has unveiled a program that would use nuclear energy to power military bases in the event of adverse weather conditions, cyberattacks or power grid failures.

A new initiative called Janus, created in response to the military’s growing energy needs, was unveiled at its annual annual meeting, the US military said. Conference of the Association of Army Services (AUSA).

According to the report, the goal of the program is to provide the Army with more reliable sources of energy through new capabilities in key areas such as nuclear power.

Under the decision entitled “Use of Advanced Nuclear Technologies for the Interest of National Security”, it is planned to have the first nuclear reactors capable of providing military bases will be installed on September 30, 2028.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the Janus program will place “micro-reactors” on military bases that will be used to generate electricity.

These reactors will need to power weapons and key military operations in cases where conventional energy sources are unavailable due to extreme weather conditions, cyber attacks or power grid outages.
