The United States announced the removal of Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa from the list of international terrorist organizations subject to sanctions.
Deputy press secretary of the US State Department Tommy Pigot said that Secretary of State Marco Rubio removed Sharaa, who was previously included there under the name “Mohammed”, from the list of “specially dangerous international terrorists” (SDGT). al-Julani.”
Pigot stressed that this decision “is a powerful political message recognizing Syria’s transition to a new period.”
The Deputy Press Secretary of the State Department also said that the US Treasury Department has removed Syrian Interior Minister Anas Khattab from the sanctions list.
“These steps are being taken in recognition of the progress made by the Syrian leadership since the departure of the new Syrian government. With the President, Sharaa is making active efforts to find missing Americans, fulfill commitments to combat terrorism and drug trafficking, eliminate chemical weapons, strengthen regional security and stability, and support an inclusive political process led and controlled by Syria itself,” he said.
Pigot noted that the United States will continue to support the efforts of the Syrian people to achieve peace, stability and reconstruction of the country.
On November 6, the UN Security Council adopted a resolution in which he approved the lifting of sanctions against the President of Syria and the country’s Minister of Internal Affairs.
