A boat allegedly carrying drugs was destroyed in the Caribbean Sea. As a result of the strike, three people were killed. This was stated by US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth on the social network of the American company X.
According to the minister, the operation was carried out by order of US President Donald Trump. Hegseth said that three people on board were killed. He added that the boat, which he claimed was engaged in drug smuggling, was hit in international waters.
The Pentagon chief noted that no American troops were injured during the operation. “Attacks on ships associated with narco-terrorists will continue until they cease their activities,” the minister said.
He also addressed drug cartel members, calling them “a threat to the Motherland.” “I appeal to all narco-terrorists who threaten our country: if you want to survive, stop the drug trade,” Hegseth said.
Previously, President Donald Trump signed an executive order expanding the use of the armed forces to fight Latin American drug cartels outside the country.
In this context, at the end of August, the United States sent a naval group, including a submarine and warships, to the shores of Venezuela. At the time, Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth said the U.S. military was “prepared for operations in Venezuela, including possible regime change.”
Meanwhile, a series of recent U.S. military strikes on boats in the Caribbean and Pacific Ocean allegedly carrying smugglers have drawn international criticism and accusations of “extrajudicial killings.”
