US Secretary Of Defense Announced Transfer Of Another 500 National Guard Soldiers To Washington

US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced the deployment of 500 more National Guard troops to Washington.

Speaking at a press conference in the Dominican Republic, Hegseth noted that the National Guard would strengthen its presence in the American capital after the shooting of two guardsmen. According to him, another 500 new soldiers will be stationed in and around the White House.

Hegseth noted that some individuals are “ready to take dangerous actions,” but an attack on the guardsmen will not force them to retreat, but on the contrary, it will “strengthen resolve.”

“We will ensure the safety of our capital and our cities. This incident occurred just a few steps from the White House. We will not allow this,” the head emphasized The Pentagon.

The minister also said that, on behalf of President Donald Trump, a decision had been made to send 500 more National Guard troops to Washington.

Attack in Washington

Washington police previously reported that at about 2:15 p.m. local time, a shooting occurred in the White House area, as a result of which two guardsmen were wounded and the suspect was detained.

Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Cash Patel said at a press conference that the condition of both wounded people remains critical. He noted that, according to available information, the attack was carried out by one person who is already in custody.

Patel stressed that the incident will be investigated at the highest level, as it is a matter of national security.

Washington Mayor Muriel Elizabeth Bowser, in turn, called the incident a “deliberate, targeted attack” and said that the city authorities will conduct a thorough investigation together with the FBI.

West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey in his The first statement announced the death of two guardsmen. He later withdrew this statement, explaining that “there are conflicting information coming in about the condition of the military.”

In his first message on social networks, Trump called the shooter an “animal,” confirming that both guardsmen were being treated in the hospital.

The US President noted that the attacker was wounded and “will pay a heavy price.”
