US Secretary of State will visit Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan

Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Donald Lu will visit Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan April 22-27, the US State Department said.

“Lu will go to Dushanbe to meet with high -ranking government officials with an emphasis on the deepening of the US -Tajik partnership and discuss general problems and goals, including in the field of security,” the State Department said in a statement.

Lu will also meet with representatives of the press and civil society of Tajikistan, “to emphasize the importance of the freedom of the press and the need for strong civil society.”

“While in Bishkek and in Dushanbe, the assistant Secretary of State Lu emphasizes the unchanging US sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of the Kyrgyz Republic and Tajikistan,” the report said.
