US warned China on sanctions for supporting Russia

US Trade Minister Gina Raymondo threatened to Chinese companies for prohibiting access to the necessary American technologies if they violate sanctions against Russia.

As the New York Times writes, Raymondo stated that the Biden administration may stop SMIC access and other Chinese manufacturers to instruments and software produced in the United States, important to create the most modern chips.

“They have their own interests not to deliver this material to Russia. So they do it not from the kindness of your heart,” said Raymondo.

According to NYT, the United States can “essentially close” any Chinese company that violates the ban on the export of chips in Russia and Belarus.

The publication reminds that until the invasion of Ukraine, Russia bought most chips in China.
