USA on entry of Finland and Sweden to NATO

The US administration advocates the successful completion of the consultations of Ankara, Stockholm and Helsinki for the speedy entry of Finland and Sweden to NATO, but Washington will not intervene in these negotiations.

This statement was made at a briefing for journalists, strategic communications coordinator at the White House National Security Council John Kirby.

“We, of course, still decisively support their entry into the Alliance,” he said.

Kirby stated that these countries have “modern armies” and emphasized that the US military “is very comfortable to interact with them on a bilateral basis.”

According to him, these states will significantly strengthen the “collective defense potential of Europe and abroad”.

“So we are very looking forward to their entry into the Alliance. We remember that Turkey still expresses concern about their entry. And we want negotiations on this to continue. And we, of course, made it clear that we want to continue the continuation Discussions of this, so that the entry happens as soon as possible. We will not get into these negotiations, ”the representative of the US administration added.

According to him, this should be decided “between Turkey, Sweden and Finland.”
