New Jersey imam stabbed during prayer

In the city of Paterson, where representatives of the Muslim community of the American state of New Jersey, including ethnic Turks, live compactly, an armed attack on the imam of one of the local mosques.

The incident occurred on Sunday, the ninth of April during the morning prayer in the Omar Mosque mosque.

The attacker caused a knife wound to the back of the 65-year-old Imam Sayed al-Nakiba when he made Sajem (earthly bow during prayer).

On the frames from the video surveillance camera, it is clear how the 32-year-old attacking Sheriff Zorba, being in the third row of prayers, using the moment, jumps over the worshipers and makes an attack.

However, even after the strike, the criminal does not throw a knife, threatening them with the rest of the believers who are trying to stop him. As a result, the man managed to grab and transfer to the police.

Imam al-Nakiba was hospitalized to the Holy Joseph’s hospital a few minutes driving from the mosque. There is no threat to life.

At the first court hearing, which took place the day before, Zorba took part online from the Bergen district prison. He is accused of “attempted murder.”

The leadership of the community of the mosque and the police did not specify the motives of the crime. The investigation continues.
