The volume of Turkish exports from the Western Mediterranean regions in the first 10 months of this year amounted to $2 billion 240 million. This is stated in a statement by Umit Mirza Cavusoglu, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Union of Exporters of the Western Mediterranean (BAİB).
According to Cavusoglu, the volume of Turkish exports from the regions of Antalya, Isparta and Burdur, which are part of BAİB, amounted to $224.3 million in October of this year alone, which is 3.45% higher than in October last year.
He noted that in October the leading place in terms of export volumes was taken by the fresh fruit and vegetable sector. This is followed by the mining and metallurgical industries, the chemical industry, the production of wood and forest products, as well as pulses and oilseeds, said the chairman of the board of directors of BAİB.
According to Çavuşoğlu, the largest exports in October were to China, amounting to $22 million. The TOP 5 also included the USA, Germany, Russia and the Netherlands.
Export to 168 countries and regions
The head of BAİB noted that in the period from January to October, the region’s exports increased by 2.75% compared to the same period last year and reached $2.24 billion.
He indicated that manufacturing remains the leading export sector of the Western Mediterranean as before fresh fruits and vegetables.
“Over ten months, the export volume of this sector reached $583.5 million. The main export product was pepper, the supply of which increased by 11.15%, to $163.6 million. In second place are tomatoes. This is followed by the mining and metallurgical industries, forestry and woodworking products, chemistry and legumes and oilseeds,” he said Çavuşoğlu.
According to him, in ten months of the year, the number of countries and regions to which Western Mediterranean products are exported reached 168.
China is in first place, followed by Germany, the USA, Russia and Ukraine, he added.
