The German astronaut Matthias Maurer watched military operations in Ukraine from space.
“We could see the clouds of smoke in the country, and at night – outbreaks from missile hits. It was very sad for me,” said Maurer, whose words are reported by Deutsche Welle.
Maurer, who was on the ISS for six months and returned to Earth two weeks ago, expressed the hope that Ukrainians would soon be able to live in a peaceful and free country. “The war threw us away for decades ago,” he said.
