What happened on North Stream and North Stream-2 gas pipelines?

North Stream Operator – Nord Stream – reported at the same time destroying three gas pipeline threads at once, reports Deutsche Welle.

“Destruction, which occurred on the same day on three threads of the naval gas pipelines of the North Stream system, are unprecedented in nature. The deadlines for restoration of the gas transmission infrastructure is still impossible to evaluate,” the Nord Stream said on Tuesday, September 27.

On the night of September 26, there was a leak on one of the threads of the Nord Stream-2 highway, the gas leak was also recorded from both threads of the Northern Stream-1. All three leaks occurred in the exclusive economic zone of Denmark northeast of the island of Bornholm.

Poland did not exclude that leaks on gas pipelines can be a provocation from Russia. “We are in a situation with high international tension. Unfortunately, our eastern neighbor constantly pursues an aggressive policy. If it is capable of aggressive military policy in Ukraine, it is obvious that no provocation, including areas that are located, are also excluded. In Western Europe, ”said the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Marcin Pshidach.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia is deeply concerned about the situation on the North Stream gas pipelines. “Indeed, the pressure fell significantly, and this is really an unprecedented situation that requires urgent proceedings. We are extremely concerned about these news,” Peskov said.

The German edition of Der Tagesspiegel, citing sources close to the investigation of the incident, writes that the Russian gas pipelines “North Stream” and “Northern Stream-2” could be attacked, including with the help of submarines or specially trained divers. Sources of the publication work out two versions. The first is the “pro -Ukrainian forces” that could be undermined by pipelines. The source notes that in this case, Russia will not have any other choice on how to supply gas along routes through Poland and Ukraine. The second version is the Russian operation under the other people’s flag with the same meaning.

North Stream-2 gas pipeline from Russia to Germany was completed in the fall of 2021, but never launched. On February 22, Germany stopped the process of launching it in response to the recognition of the independence of the DPR and LPR by Russia. At the same time, the North Stream-1 continued to work after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24. Russia first reduced, and later completely stopped pumping gas on this pipeline, referring to the malfunctions of the only working turbine.
