The USA expresses the hope that the second round of direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine will take place in Istanbul next week.

This press secretary of the White House Caroline Levitt announced at a briefing on Thursday, May 29. “We believe that this meeting will take place,” said Levitt.

“as far as I know, and we hope for this, Russia and Ukraine will really hold direct negotiations next week in Istanbul. We believe that this meeting will be held,” the press secretary said.

She emphasized that this is exactly the meeting that President Donald Trump actively supports and is actively insisting so that both sides are able to sit down at the negotiating table directly.

Levitt also recalled that from the beginning of the conflict, Trump repeatedly called on both Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky to a direct dialogue in order to put an end to the conflict.

She also assured that the White House would inform about the decision to send an American representative to the negotiations of Russia and the USA in Istanbul if Donald Trump decides to do this.

On the eve of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov said that the delegation of the Russian Federation, led by presidential assistant Vladimir Medinsky, was ready to present a memorandum in Istanbul on June 2 in Istanbul, which sets out the position of Moscow on all key issues of the primary prospects of the crisis.

The Kremlin on Thursday reported that they had not yet received a response from Ukraine regarding the holding of a new round of negotiations in Istanbul on June 2. “We proposed on Monday, June 2, to gather in Istanbul to the second round. So far, as far as I know, the answer was not received,” said Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for Russian President.
