WHO: lives of millions of Ukrainians will be at risk

Due to Russia’s attempts to destroy the energy of Ukraine, this winter will be the life of millions of Ukrainians, the regional Director of the WHO in Europe, Dr. Hans Henry Klyiga, BBC reports.

“Half of the Ukrainian energy infrastructure is damaged or destroyed. This already affects the healthcare system and people’s health. Simply put, this winter the question of survival will arise before people,” said a briefing in Kyiv,

.

According to WHO, this winter, two or three million Ukrainians can leave their homes, as Dr. Kluge put it, “in search of warmth and safety.” Residents of the country, in the absence of heating and light, threaten more than usual, among other things, infection of the respiratory tract, Covid, influenza.

According to Klyuga, due to Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy, hundreds of hospitals and other institutions of the healthcare system cannot work normally – there are no or lacking electricity and water. Incubators in maternity hospitals, refrigerators for blood storage, equipment in intensive care rooms – all this works on electricity, Kluge reminded.
