WHO: One Million People Die From Tuberculosis Every Year

World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Director for Europe Hans Kluge said that 1 million people die every year from tuberculosis, “the world’s deadliest infectious disease.”

Kluge shared information about tuberculosis on the social network of the American company X.

“Tuberculosis is the deadliest infectious disease in the world, killing 1 million people every year,” Kluge wrote, noting, that the crisis is worsened by drug resistance, coinfection with tuberculosis and HIV, as well as inequalities in access to health care and insufficient funding.

In the Global TB Report 2025, released on November 12, WHO reported that in 2024, more than 1.2 million people died from tuberculosis and about 10.7 million people were infected with the disease.
