The old battery production plant, where the Bosniy residents took refuge during the genocide in the Srebrenitsa and where mass reprisals were committed, with the support of Turkey was transformed into the museum.
The museum was created as part of a joint project of the Turkish Agency for Cooperation and Coordination (TİKA) and the memorial center of the Srebrenitsa. It is dedicated to perpetuating the memory of the victims of the genocide.
The museum opened for visits on the 30th anniversary of the tragedy and is a joint initiative of the TİKA Sarayevsky office and the memorial center. The exposition includes the personal belongings of the victims, video materials about the war of 1992-1995, as well as their photographs.
Tİka President Serkan Kayalar told Anadol’s correspondent that the project was initiated in 2021 under the auspices of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and was implemented in three stages. The first stage included the repair of the roof of the former plant and other restoration work.
“We experience a bitter joy from the completion of the last stage of the museum project just on the 30th anniversary. This museum will take a special place among museums dedicated to genocide, both in Europe and in the world. Genocide in the Srebranitsa has become a black spot in the history of all of humanity. It will be extremely important to divide the suffering of this region and tomorrow,” – noted tomorrow, ” – noted tomorrow,” – noted tomorrow, ” Kayalar.
He emphasized that the museum presents many exhibits belonging to the victims of the genocide, as well as materials telling about the consequences of the tragedy, the detection of remains and pathological studies.
“more than 700 photographs of victims are exhibited here. There are bus sections – it was on buses that people were taken away from here. We created a museum that clearly and comprehensively tells about this crime. We, as Tİka, representing the Turkish Republic, express gratitude to everyone who has contributed to the implementation of the project. We must not forget these victims. We must unite and show decisions so that such Genocides were no longer repeated, ”said the head of Ti̇ka.
“One of the walls is completely devoted to photographs of the victims of the genocide”
