Yerevan expects to open border with Turkey for citizens of third countries

Press Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Vaan Unayan, confirmed information about the abolition of Turkey for banning direct air transportation of goods between the two countries.

“Indeed, today the Turkish side has informed us of taking a ban on direct air transportation of goods,” he said.

Unanyan recalled that the implementation of direct air transportation of Armenia-Sturge is one of the agreements reached at the meeting of special representatives on July 1, 2022.

“We expect that another agreement providing for the possibility of crossing the land border for citizens of third countries will also be realized as soon as possible,” said the representative of the Armenian Foreign Ministry.

On July 1, the special representatives of Armenia and Turkey to normalize relations Ruben Rubinyan and Serdar Kylych, at a meeting in Vienna, agreed to ensure the possibility of crossing the ground Armenian-Turkish border with citizens of third countries and start direct air transportation between Armenia and Turkey.

There are no diplomatic relations between the two countries, and the border has been closed since 1993 at the initiative of Ankara. On January 14, 2021, the first meeting of the special representatives of Armenia and Turkey was held in Moscow.
