Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky described his relationship with US President Donald Trump as “professional and constructive,” noting that he is “not afraid” of him.
Ukrainian President Zelensky gave an interview to The Guardian newspaper at the presidential palace in Kyiv, in which he touched on the issue of relations with the United States.
Stating that “everyone in the world is afraid of Trump,” Zelensky, when asked if this also applies to him, replied “no.”
The President said: “We are not America’s enemies. We are friends. Why should we be afraid?”
He added that Trump, like himself, was elected by the people, and that the choice of the American people must be respected.
The head of state said that the United States has been a strategic partner of Ukraine for many years and that the two countries share “deep common values,” and also described his relationship with Trump as “normal,” “professional,” and “constructive.”
He noted that he wants to order 27 Patriot air defense systems from American manufacturers, and expressed hope that European countries will be able to lease their Patriot systems to Ukraine.
Vladimir Zelensky also noted that during the interview there was a power outage at the presidential palace, citing Russian attacks: “These are our living conditions, this is normal. Like everywhere else, there are power surges in Kyiv.”
