Zhaparov: Kyrgyz Trade Turnover With Italy Over Past Four Years Has Increased By Almost Five Times

The turnover of Kyrgyzstan with Italy over the past four years has increased by almost five times. Kyrgyzstan is actively developing the economy, creating favorable conditions for foreign investors. This was stated by President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov, speaking at a meeting of the first Summit “Central Asia – Italy” with the participation of the chairman of the Council of Ministers of Italy George Melony in Astana.

In his speech, the head of the Kyrgyz state noted that the establishment of strategic partnership with Italy, the strengthening of economic and industrial ties are priority for Kyrgyzstan.

“Kyrgyzstan attaches great importance to the development of transport infrastructure, including international corridors connecting the East and West. So, in December 2024 the construction of the Chinese-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, which will reduce the delivery time of goods from Asia to Europe up to 10 days. The total investment is 8 billion US dollars. We are ready to interaction with Italy in matters of modernization of logistics chains, introducing digital solutions and creating effective delivery routes, ”said Zhaparov, whose words are given by the Kyrgyz media.

The head of state paid special attention to the development of renewable energy in Kyrgyzstan, including large projects in the field of hydro- and solar energy, and also expressed interest in attracting Italian experience and technologies for the implementation of “green” projects.

Speaking of the ecology, the President of Kyrgyzstan expressed concern about the state of Lake Issyk-Kul, the water level in which has significantly decreased over the past one and a half centuries due to climate change and anthropogenic effects.

“Since 1854, the water level in Issyk-Kul has fallen by almost 14 meters, the area of ​​the water mirror has decreased significantly, and the volume of water decreased. Back in the 1950-1960s, about 100-110 rivers flowed into the lake. Now this is not just statistics, this is a disturbing signal that can be compared with the disappearance of Aralsky Seas, ”the president said.

Zhaparov also focused on the importance of cooperation with Italy and the countries of the region on sustainable development of mining territories and reminded of the initiative of Kyrgyzstan and Italy to announce the five -year -olds for mining regions.

In Astana, the first Summit “Central Asia – Italy” took place. The theme of the summit was: “General horizons. Dialogue of Central Asia and Italy in the name of global stability.” The event was attended by President of Kazakhstan Kasim-Zhomart Tokaev, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdymuhamedov, as well as chairman of the Council of Ministers of Italy George Melony.
