Kazakhstan began collecting signatures for renaming Nur-Sultan back to Astana

Kazakhstan began to collect signatures for renaming the capital of the country, the city of Nur-Sultan, back to Astana. It is reported by Kaztag.

The corresponding petition appeared on the Internet. Its authors argue that the new name of the capital Nur-Sultan is perceived by people negatively, in everyday life, residents use the former name. “Given the mood in society, we ask the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the government and the parliament of the country to return the previous title of the capital,” the address says.

The authors also offer in all cities of Kazakhstan to rename the streets named after the former President of Nursultan Nazarbayev, give them neutral names, “emphasizing statehood, unity and independence of the country.”
