United Nations called parties to conflict in Sudan to cessation of fire

Emergency Coordinator and Deputy Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs (VSGV), Martin Griffith, called on the parties to the conflict in Sudan to stop the fire and protect the civilian population.

“Contrary to the UN call to the cessation of fire during Ramazan, the clashes continue. The war in Sudan is approaching its first anniversary. From now on, the time has come. We urge all parties to make weapons, ensure the protection of the civilian population and access to humanitarian aid,” – wrote Griffiths on the social network x.

Earlier, on March 8, a draft resolution was adopted in the UN Security Council calling for the immediate termination of clashes in Sudan in the Holy for Muslims for the month of Ramazan and the search for decisions through dialogue.

The resolution also contains the requirement to eliminate all obstacles to humanitarian assistance, the parties to the conflict, in turn, are designed to fulfill their obligations in accordance with international law.

Deputy Commander of the Sudanese Army, Lieutenant General Yasir al-Ata, said that during the Holy Muslims, the Ramazan will not be a ceasefire.

Armed conflict in Sudan

The armed confrontation between the army of Sudan and the quick response forces (SBR) began on April 15, 2023. The reason for the clashes was the issue of integration of the SBR into the structure of the army.

The fighting that began in the capital soon covered other units of the country.

The Sudan government called on the international community to declare the SBR “terrorist grouping”.

The bloodshed does not stop contrary to agreements on the ceasefire and international pressure on the conflicting parties.
