Kocharian criticized CSTO: It would be naive to think that CSTO could somehow defend us

“At the level of personal contacts, the leaders of the CSTO countries are much closer to the President of Azerbaijan. Therefore, it would be naive to think that CSTO could somehow respond and protect us. It is simply excluded.” About this at a press conference on February 17, the second President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan, writes News.am.

Kocharyan noted that in January the TEMP Theme is most often discussed: “There is CSTO or not, she is dead or alive, why CSTO did not intervene when there was a” attack “in Armenia.”

He recalled the story of the creation of the CSTO, adding that he was familiar with the motivational issues and the directions of its creation, three of its vectors and the central role of Russia in all three vectors: “in all CSTO countries, except for Russia, and Turkey, and with Azerbaijan Much warmer relationships, much more extensive relationships in all areas than with us. This includes economic volumes, interstate contacts, interstate contractual base, cultural bonds, etc.

Moreover, the countries of Central Asia, which are part of the CSTO, together with Turkey and Azerbaijan, are part of another Turkic organization. And at the level of personal contacts, the leaders of these countries are much closer to the President of Azerbaijan. Therefore, it would be naive to think that the CSTO could somehow respond and protect us. It is simply excluded. The point is not that the CSTO is a dead structure. It works very well where the interests of all coincide, and in the case of Kazakhstan it worked. “

“We need to stay in the CSTO, to cooperate with it, but to understand that in terms of security there can be nothing but words”, “added Kocharian.
