Claar on normalization of relations between Baku and Yerevan: European Union works in this direction

“We have always emphasized the need for a comprehensive settlement of the conflict. We are working in this direction.” The special representative of the EU in the South Caucasus Toyvo Claar, speaking of the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, said this in an interview with foreign media.

According to him, the conflict should finally be settled.

“From Baku and Yerevan, positive messages come in general. Messages that I received are that the meeting of leaders in Brussels gave certain specific results a few weeks ago. The first meeting of border commissions took place. Then the meeting was held in Moscow Premieres to discuss the opening of the routes that leaders discussed in Brussels. And this inspires us. The reaction from Baku is that the assessment of both the Brussels meeting and its further move is positive. So there is a quite positive dynamics. And I think, I think, that it can be developed, ”said Claar.

As for the opinions of the possible competition between Brussels and Moscow about the Karabakh settlement, according to Toyvo Claar, the EU does not claim to be “copyright”, and most importantly, now it is to try to advance the process forward.

“The European Union does not claim” copyright “to something. We are interested in seeing progress and supporting it. I think this is exactly the president of the European Union Council Charles Michelle to achieve thanks to his three meetings with Armenian leaders And Azerbaijan, as well as thanks to a meeting with France President Emmanuel Macron. And this is what we want to do, ”he stressed.

He also touched on the last meeting of the working group of Deputy Prime Ministers of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan in Moscow on the issues of unlocking communications in the region.

“This is very good if it leads us in the right direction. After all, the only interest of the European Union is to promote the process and help to achieve a strong comprehensive settlement,” the EU special representative said.
