Iran officially joined Shanghai organization of cooperation

Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) on Tuesday officially announced the entry of Iran into the ranks of the participants in the association.

The corresponding decision was made at the 23rd Summit of the organization under the chairmanship of India.

The solemn ceremony of raising the flag of Iran in connection with the adoption of the Islamic Republic to the ranks of the SCO participants took place in the organization’s secretariat in Beijing.

Thus, Iran became the ninth member of the interstate association. In September 2022, a memorandum of Iran’s obligations was signed at the SCO summit in Samarkand in order to join the organization.

In addition, the leaders of the SCO countries signed a memorandum of the obligations of Belarus.

The signing of this document launches the procedure for the full -fledged accession of the republic to the SCO. Belarus was invited to the summit as an observer.

“The Chairmen in the SCO for the coming period is moving to the Republic of Kazakhstan. Another meeting of the Council of Heads of State – SCO members will be held in 2024 in the Republic of Kazakhstan,” the joint New Delishy declared by a meeting of the Council of the heads of the SCO state says.

SCO was founded on June 15, 2001 in Shanghai. At first, the organization included six countries – Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, in 2017 India and Pakistan joined them.
