Lithuanian President excluded likelihood of Ukraine’s accession to NATO during war

The President of Lithuania Gitanas Nauceda rejected the idea of the likely entry of Ukraine to NATO before the end of the war. Nauceda said this in an interview with the Italian newspaper La Repubblica.

According to him, a discussion of the likely connection of Ukraine to NATO will be one of the most difficult topics of the Summit of the Alliance, which will be held in Vilnius July 11-12.

“I will tell you frankly, this will be the most difficult question that will have to deal with Vilnius. Lithuania insists on an ambitious agenda, but some countries still do not dare to send [President of Ukraine Vladimir] Zelensky strong signals on this topic,” said He.

Nauceda also rejected the idea of the likely entry of Ukraine to the Alliance before the end of the war with the Russian Federation.

“It would be too difficult. We know about it, and the Ukrainians ourselves know about it. We must go to the practical phase, determine the stages and formulas how to act after the end of the conflict,” said Lithuanian President. He expressed the hope that at the summit the road map of the accession of Ukraine will be determined.
