Movlam Shikhaliev case was returned to Baku military court

In the Baku Court of Appeal, a meeting was held in the case of the former major general of the abolished Ministry of National Security (MNB) of Azerbaijan Movlam Shikhaliev.

According to haqqin.az, the case of a general who wants to return the confiscated property and justification was returned to the Baku military court.

The lawyer M. Shikhaliev said that the reason for this was the expiration of the appeal. He also noted that the accused party filed a number of petitions. However, since the case was returned, these petitions were left without consideration. It was decided that the petitions would be considered after the criminal case returned to the Baku Court of Appeal.

According to the charge, in 2008-2014, when Movlam Shikhaliev served as the head of the Main Investigation Department, the ex-head of one of the departments under the administration of Vusal Alekperov, ex-deputy head of the department Yasin Mammadov, ex-deputy head of the department of Sahib Alekperov consisting An organized group extorted large amounts of money from businessmen. The investigation established reasonable suspicions that Shikhaliev, as part of an organized group, extorted funds totaling 14 million 292 thousand manat, as well as someone else’s property for 5 million 77 thousand manat, abusing the authority and falsifying evidence. A long trial ended on September 21 of this year. The Baku military court sentenced Shikhaliev to 12 years in prison. In addition, property of 7.7 million manat, belonging to him and his family, was confiscated.
