Turkey expects “specific guarantees” from Sweden

The position of Turkey regarding Sweden’s application for the entry into NATO is extremely clear – Ankara waits for Stockholm will provide specific guarantees in accordance with the “collective security principle” of the alliance. This is stated in a statement widespread by the Delivery of the Administration of the President of Turkey, Anadolu reports.

“Ankara expected that Sweden, which has submitted an application for NATO membership, will take fundamental steps and provide specific guarantees regarding Turkey’s security,” the statement said.

According to the statement, such guarantees should include the cessation of political support of terrorism, eliminating sources of financing terrorism, the termination of military support of the terrorist organization of the RSC and its PYD Syrian branch, as well as the cancellation of the embargo and sanctions against Ankara.

“The Sweden government provides PKK/Pyd PKK/PYD military equipment, in particular anti -tank weapons and drones,” stated in management.

The administration reminded that the arms embargo of Sweden against Turkey was introduced amid the efforts of Ankara to protect their legitimate interests in the Eastern Mediterranean on the basis of international law and ensure the safety of its borders with Syria.

“Our country has since requested Sweden Extradition of PKK/Pyd and Fetö terrorists, but has not yet received a positive answer,” the department noted.

In addition, the Swedish authorities said, they pledged to provide $ 376 million to support the PKK/PYD, which was included in the list of terrorist organizations of 38 countries, including NATO and the EU members, and aimed at the national security of a member of the North Atlantic Alliance – Turkey.

“Turkey adheres to the open door policies to NATO, but in Ankara it is considered necessary that members of the alliance and candidate countries to join the block actively cooperate in the fight against terrorism, as well as in other areas,” the administration emphasized.
