Turkish scientists studied magnetic field in Antarctic

Participants in the 8th Antarctic Scientific Expedition of Turkey conducted important research on a white continent.

The expedition was carried out under the auspices of the Administration of the President of Turkey, the Ministry of Industry and Technology and in the coordination of the Institute of Polar Research MAM under the Council for Scientific and Technical Research of Turkey (Tübi̇tak).

The duration of the mission was 36 days.

During the expedition, scientists carried out work on the island of Khorsha in Antarctica and the Gulf of the Gulf Margritis.

Associate Professor of the Department of Geophysical Engineering of the Technical University, Karadeniz Murat Okapaptan conducted research on the geological education of the island. In an interview with the Anadolu agency, he said that the work was carried out as part of the project “Paleomagnetism of the island of Horsha”.

“My project has two important goals. The first is to identify the temporary changes in the Earth’s magnetic field, and the second is to shed light on the tectonic rotation of the region based on breeds that will be taken from the island of Horsha and its environs,” said He.

According to him, humanity collects knowledge about the magnetic field of the Earth for about 2 thousand years.

The magnetic field was first discovered in China and used as a guideline in determining the direction of movement, he noted.

“Based on samples taken from different ages forming the island of Horsha, information on the” behavior “of the magnetic field in past geological periods will be obtained. By means of properly identifying the” behavior “of the magnetic field in past periods, you can accurately predict possible changes in the future Thus, it will be possible to get extremely important data for projection studies regarding the magnetic field of the Earth, ”he explained.
