US government partially suspended work due to termination of financing

The US Federal Government partially suspended work due to the termination of financing.

On Friday, the House of Representatives of the US Congress 286 votes and 134 – “Against” approved a package bill providing for the extension of the allocation of funds in the amount of about 1.2 trillion dollars to the work of the main part of the federal departments until the end of 2024 financial year.

Most of the members of the House of Representatives from the Democratic Party supported the bill, but more than half of the Republicans opposed.

After that, the bill entered the consideration of the Senate – the upper house of the American Congress. In order to avoid Shatdown, the Senate was supposed to vote by the document until midnight. However, the vote under the bill on Friday never took place.

Funding of six departments, including the Pentagon and the State Department, should have been agreed until March 22. The delay in voting in the Senate led to a technical partial suspension of the work of the federal government.

The majority leader in the US Senate Democrat Chuck Schumer said that the Democrats and Republicans have already reached an agreement on the adoption of the budget bill.

Since the Republicans and Democrats in the Senate agreed to approve the budget bill, it is expected that the termination of the government will be short -lived, and the consequences of limited.

What does a partial suspension of government work mean?

The suspension of the US government is a temporary situation that arises when Congress is not able to agree on financing of the activities of state bodies.

During the suspension, non -critical bodies are closed, and hundreds of thousands of their employees are sent on unpaid leave.

According to American law, if Congress is not able to approve the budget in a timely manner for the entire financial year, which begins on October 1 and ends on September 30 of each year, expenses are covered from the temporary budget.

The Federal Government loses its powers to spend funds in these periods and is forced to suspend all activities, with the exception of vital services.

Employees belonging to the category of “main personnel” often do not receive a salary during downtime until the Congress accepts a new budget.
