In footsteps of Macron? Berlusconi urged to accept Russia’s demands for Ukraine

The former Prime Minister of Italy Silvio Berlusconi urged European countries to convince Kyiv to accept Russia’s demands. It is reported by the Italian “liberal newspaper”.

“The world should be achieved as soon as possible. I believe that united Europe should make a peaceful proposal, trying to make Ukrainians accept Putin’s questions,” he said.

In addition, Berlusconi spoke out critically to the UK and NATO. In his opinion, in order to put Putin at the negotiating table, they should not make “statements that sound from all sides.” “We try to put an end to this war as soon as possible, and it would be better not to advertise so many weapons supply,” the former Italian prime minister added.

A few days ago, the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky in an interview with the Italian media said that French President Emmanuel Macron tried to succeed in mediation between Ukraine and Russia, offering him concessions on sovereignty. The Ukrainian leader decisively rejected this proposal. “We should not look for a way out for Russia, and Mr. Macron does this in vain. I believe that he has excellent experience, that until Russia itself does not want, it will not look for anything … He wanted to get certain results in mediation, he I did not find them, and not from our part, but from Russia, ”Zelensky said then. The President of Ukraine also stated that Macron invited him to make certain concessions regarding Ukrainian sovereignty in order to preserve his face to Putin.

Earlier, Berlusconi expressed the opinion that neither in Europe nor in the world there are no politicians who are able to negotiate with Moscow.

Russia in negotiations with Ukraine achieves a neutral status and refusing Kyiv from joining NATO. Moscow also wants Kyiv to recognize the separatist “DPR” and “LPR” by independent states, and Crimea – the Russian region.
