Poland and Baltic countries demanded to withdraw forces of Wagner PMC from Belarus

Poland, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia agreed to close the border with Belarus in the event of a “critical incident”.

This is stated in a joint statement widespread after the meeting of the ministers of the internal affairs of Poland, Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia, held in Warsaw.

Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia also demanded that the authorities of Belarus immediately withdraw all the forces of the Wagner PMC from the country.

The statement notes that on the boundaries of Poland and the Baltic countries with Belarus, the escalating of the situation occurs.

In this regard, “all the checkpoints across the border of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia with Belarus will be immediately closed if a critical incident occurs,” the document says.

Poland and the Baltic countries are concerned about the situation on the border after last month, at the invitation of the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, hundreds of mercenaries of the PMC Wagner arrived in the country.

In addition, attempts to cross the border by illegal migrants have intensified. Earlier, Lithuania announced the temporary closure of two of the six points of crossing the border with Belarus from August 18. The country also discusses the possibility of closing the rest of the intersection of the Lithuanian-Belarusian border.

Poland and the Baltic countries are taking measures to strengthen the protection of borders with Belarus. Poland builds additional protective structures there and increases the military presence.
