Shakhriyar and Zeynab Mammadyarov – best among Azerbaijanis at World Championships in Poland

Today in Warsaw, the World Rapid and Blitz Championship started, in which Azerbaijani chess players participate.

Shakhriyar Mammadyarov, Rauf Mamedov, Aydin Sulemanly, Vasif Durarbeyli, Magomed Muradla, Vugar Asadly and Khazar Babazade, and Zeynab Mammadyarova, Türkyan Mammadyarova, Govhar Bedullaeva, Hana Balajaeva and Gulnar Mamedov, in the female – Zeynab Mammadyarova, Türkyan Mamedjaeva and Gulnar Mamedov.

On the first day of the competition, men were played by 5 rounds, in women – 4. After 5 rounds, the best result in the men’s competition among ours demonstrates Shakhriyar Mammadyarov. He scored 3.5 points and takes the 26th place. Shahryar beat Pole Pavel Charnot, played a draw with Russian Evgeny Naire, defeated Armenian Samvel Ter-Saakyan, gave way to Israelis Boris Gelfand and defeated Serb Alexander Indzhik. For as many points in Vasif Durarbeyli, located on the 39th position.

4.5 points scored three chess players heading the tournament table. It is Pole Jan-Kizhtof Duda, Georgian Baadur Jobaba and the current world champion in classic chess, Rapid and Blitz Magnus Karlsen.

4 rounds played in the women’s tournament. The best result among ours shows Zeynab Mammadyarova, who scored 3 points. She takes the 14th place. Russians Alexander Kostenyuk leads, showing one hundred percent result. 4 points also scored Russian chess player Valentina Gunin and a representative of Romania Irina Bulmaga.

Male Rapid tournament will consist of 13 rounds and end on December 28th. Blitz will be played on December 29 and 30. There chess players will hold 21 tour. In the women’s rapide, 11 rounds will be played, and in the Blitz – 17.

The prize fund of men’s tournaments is equal to 350 thousand dollars, female – 150 thousand. Winners will receive 60 and 40 thousand respectively.
