Finnish intelligence still considers Russian Federation “the most serious threat”

Russia is still the most serious threat to Finland’s national security, despite the weakening of its operational capabilities. This is stated in the annual report published by the Finnish Security and Intelligence Service (SUPO).

According to the report, the main attention of Russia is not concentrated on Finland, but in Ukraine, and in this regard, in the near future there is no military threat for the country.

The report says that Russia considers Finland to one of the “unfriendly countries”, and also resorts to espionage and hybrid influence in order to influence the nature of Finland’s membership in NATO. At the same time, the most vulnerable sphere for such threats in SUPO was called cyber medium and critical infrastructure.

Russia poses the most serious threat to Finland’s national security, and weakening in the relationship between Helsinki and Moscow is now a “new norm,” the report says.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Director of SUPO Theema Turunen announced the need to be prepared for malicious activities today and in the long run.

After Finland entered NATO on April 4, 2023, Russia accused the West of trying to break off relations between Moscow and Helsinki. In December, Finland closed the borders with Russia, which she accused of helping illegal migrants trying to cross the border.
