Sergey Lavrov will take part in meetings of UN Security Council

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov went to New York, where April 24 and 25 will take part in meetings of the UN Security Council.

Events will be held as part of the Russian chairmanship in the Council of People’s Commissars this month, TASS reports.

As expected, already on Monday, Lavrov will meet with the UN Secretary General Antoniu Gutherrish. Earlier, the constant representative of the Russian Federation at the UN Vasily Nebenzya said that Russia has accumulated a lot of topics for discussion. Probably, one of the main issues will be the situation around the grain transaction: Moscow is worried about the lack of progress to relieve obstacles to the export of Russian grains and fertilizers. The current state of affairs jeopardizes the possibility of further extension of the transaction.

In addition, the Russian minister invited the heads of foreign policy departments of several countries, including US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, to take part in the UN SB meetings under the chairmanship of the Russian Federation. The question of making full-time contacts of Lavrov and Blinken in the headquarters of the organization remains open.

According to the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Moscow is ready to consider the possibility of meeting Blinken and never refuses serious proposals for dialogue with the American side. However, the deputy head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Ryabkov, before the departure of the Russian delegation to New York, said that there was no such meeting of such a meeting, and the possibility of contact would be determined by circumstances.
