Sudan froze agreement with Russia on creation of a military base

Sudan announced the suspension of the Agreement with Russia on the creation of a maritime base on the territory of the African Republic.

The action of the agreement, “signed by Moscow with the previous regime”, is suspended “before its approval by the legislative body,” reports TASS with reference to Al Arabiya channel.

Sudan’s authorities have already notified Moscow about the suspension of the agreement, the report says.

In early December 2020, Russia has concluded an agreement with Sudan on the creation of the Point of Logistical Support of the Navy of the Russian Federation on its territory. It is intended for repair, replenishment and recreation members of the crew of warships of Russia. According to the Treaty, Sudan reports to Russia for free use for the entire validity of the agreement with the territory and real estate, including the coastal zone and the water water system with the zone of the moisture front (of the Parking area). The maximum number of military and civilian personnel points of the MTO should not exceed 300 people, its increase is possible in coordination with Khartoum. The term of the agreement is 25 years old with automatic extension on 10-year periods in case none of the parties not least before the end of the next period notify the other in diplomatic channels about the intention to terminate the agreement.
