They will be transferred to restoration of Ukraine: Canada allowed to confiscate Russian assets

In Canada, amendments to the law on special economic measures entered into force, providing for the possibility of confiscating assets that have fallen under the sanctions due to the war of Russia and their use in support of Ukraine, European Pravda reports, referring to the text of the law.

The law allows the Canadian government to “take economic measures against certain persons in situations when an international organization or unification of the states whose member is Canada is called up to this, there was a gross violation of international peace and security, in another state there have been gross and systematic violations of human rights , or large -scale corruption actions with the participation of a national or foreign state have occurred.

These special economic measures provide for the identification and subsequent freezing of assets located in Canada, at the proposal of the Governor-General. By court decision, frozen assets may be confiscated.

In addition, after consultations with the Ministry of Finance and Foreign Ministry, the authorized Minister of Government of Canada can transfer funds from the sale of confiscated assets to: the restoration of a foreign state, which negatively affected the gross violation of international peace and security; restoration of international world and security; Compensation to victims of gross violation of international world and security, gross and systematic violation of human rights or large -scale corruption actions.
