When we began to build a new road to Lachin, we turned to Armenia through the Russian side and offered to build a road on their territory. There were only 8-9 kilometers there, but they refused it. This was stated by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in an interview with Azerbaijani television on Friday, August 12, in the village of Basagal, Ismailinsky district.
The head of state said that the Armenians refused this proposal, saying that they would build the road.
“And when they started to do this?! And it cannot be said that they started, because now they are only working on a technical and economic justification. Even then we sent an official letter to the Russian side that Azerbaijan is completing this path on August 5 and ask You will move the posts of the peacekeeping contingent from the old road to a new one.
When we sent this letter to them, the Armenian side probably got acquainted with this letter, the next day, Armenia stated that we want to start the economic justification of this path and build it until the end of 2023. That is, it is actually a manipulation, an absolutely frivolous and inadequate step. We said, if so, then on August 5 we enter the Lachin Corridor, build posts and watch how you will work further. After that, the Armenians living in Karabakh turned to us with a request to give them time until the end of August. And we agreed with this. Because now it does not matter much whether it will be August 5 or September 25 or 1.
At the same time, the Armenians living in Karabakh asked us that Azerbaijan build 4 kilometers of a dirt road from the border with Armenia to the connection point, and we agreed. But, of course, from the city of Lachins, Zabukh and Susa sat down should be evicted illegally settling people there. Their stay there, in fact, is a war crime. Because it contradicts the rules of the Geneva Convention.
The Complex country cannot carry out illegal settlement of the occupied lands. This is a war crime. Perhaps the Armenians living there from Syria, Lebanon does not know this, but Armenia’s leadership is familiar with this. Therefore, some news comes from there: one says that I won’t leave, the other says that I will not go out. This is their business, they are war criminals. Again, let them not experience our patience. Let them leave at their own request, and we are not interested in where they will go, ”said the head of state.
