Korea armes Poland: dozens of fighters, hundreds of tanks and howitzers

Vice Prime Minister, Minister of National Defense of Poland Mariusz Blashchak signed an agreement on South Korean weapons for the Polish army on Wednesday: these are light FA-50 fighters, K2 tanks and K9 self-propelled howitzers. This is reported by the Agency Pap.

Orders into tanks K2 were divided into two stages. At the first stage, Poland will purchase 180 cars – deliveries will begin this year, on the second – more than 800 K2PL tanks and production launch in Poland in 2026. Tanks set at the first stage will also be brought to the K2PL standard.

The purchase of self -propelled howitzers K9 was also divided into stages. The first provides for the acquisition of 48 howitzers, some of which this year will be delivered to Poland to make up for the shortage of equipment transferred to Ukraine. In 2024, more than 600 howitzers should begin, from 2026, guns will be produced in Poland.

K9 will initially be equipped with Polish communication systems, they will also be connected to the integrated system of the combat control TOPAZ.

Poland will also be purchased in South Korea by 48 light FA-50 fighters, the first 12 of which should be delivered to Poland in mid-2023. The aircraft will be configured in accordance with the requirements of the Polish Air Force and is equipped with a NATO recognition system of its own or foe (IFF NATO).

According to the representative of the weapons agency, Lieutenant Colonel Krzyshtof Platek, the choice of this aircraft is “primarily due to its availability and the fact that it can quickly replace the obsolete post-Soviet technique-the Su-22 and MiG-29”, and in the final configuration with controlled missiles and The new radar will complement the F-16 fighters.
