Employees of the financial guard (power unit of the Ministry of Economy) of Trieste seized 4.3 tons of cocaine, the newspaper Corriere Della Sera said.
According to investigators, we are talking about one of the largest exemptions of narcotic substances in Europe. As Corriere Della Sera notes, almost € 2 million in cash was also confiscated.
It is noted that the preventive measures were applied to 38 people in Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria, the Netherlands and Colombia, they are accused of international drug trafficking. The investigation lasted more than a year, and law enforcement agencies of Colombia and the USA participated in it.
